Golden Circles -Sth Cronulla NSW

Golden Circles was painted at Cronulla to reflect the shimmer of sunlight across the incoming tide. The circular sandpools were disappearing. The children were a bright shape against this and I wanted to show the golden sand patterns and figures against the smooth water surface. This representational impressionist style allows light and texture to create both atmosphere and tactile form.

This was painted specifically to create a force of opposites - the fiery, mystery of the red atmosphere integrated with the cool energy of the waves. Working the intermix of the light within the water and light from the sky became the challenge of the painting.
